despicable me DESPICABLE ME

With voices by Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnet, Miranda Cosgrove, Pierre Coffin

Written by Ken Daurio, Sergio Pablos & Cinco Paul
Directed by Pierre Coffin & Chris Renaud

The world of super-villains is a competitive one. Gru is one such character, running his operation from his creepy mansion in the middle of a very pristine suburb (assisted by his horde of dilly minions and decrepit scientist Dr. Nefario slaving away in his underground lab). With out-of-this-world plans taken to the villain bank for funding, Gru's next big plot is to steal the moon. But he'll need to conceive a shrinking ray gun to do so. When his nu-school arch-rival Vector thwarts his plans, Gru realizes his only chance to get into the jerk's hi-tech fortress is via three young orphans selling cookies. So, he adopts them.

His miserable demeanour is naturally tested and his icy heart may well start to melt (do you think?!). A lot of silly comedy, mad inventions and crazy physical gags fill up this fun family flick, that doesn't hold back on the sentiment as Gru's past is revealed and the kids awake a new part of him.

As with most high profile digitally animated feature films, this one also hit the theatres in 3D. The 2D release is no less effective though.

Loads of bonus features include the making of the movie (featuring the producers, directors and actors behind the voices like Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Russell Brand), a commentary track with the directors, 3 exclusive Minions mini films, Despicable Beats (looking at Pharell Williams' soundtrack), a rocket building and Super Silly Fun Land games, and A Global Effort (looks at the far-flung parts of the world pulling together to put this movie together over two years).
